Brands are notoriously late to the social media party. Granted, social media on mobile devices has been around for less than a decade, but I think they get the concept. As a consumer and a millennial, I want brands to be ahead of the curve.

Why can’t brands promote apps that make sense for their brands to their audience? Two years ago, Snapchat made sense for at least ONE brand. Yet, no brands were on Snapchat, now ESPN is on Snapchat. What?! I get it, I get it, you must go to where the consumers are, but do these companies have researchers? Maybe that should be a new title, Social Media App Researcher – where do I apply?

I just think that when most brands get to an app, it’s usually too late.

Maybe, brands are taking the Taco Bell route and they want to develop their own app, however, every brand is on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. So why can’t brands find these apps before they blow up? Why hasn’t a brand bought Myspace back? Ok maybe that’s too extreme, but geez, be creative.

Let’s just think about how awesome it would’ve been if Pepsi was on the floor of Twitter. They could’ve built a relationship and done things on social media that would’ve been light years ahead of other brands.

I know that this is wishful thinking, but I think the results could be unreal.
